The First Partition of Poland was decided on August 5, 1772. The second partition occurred in the aftermath of the Polish–Russian War of 1792 and the Second Partition was signed on January 23, 1793. The Third Partition took place on October 24, 1795, in reaction to the unsuccessful Polish Kościuszko Uprising the previous year. With this partition, the Commonwealth ceased to exist. WWI ends in 1918 with the loss the Central powers, Poland regains its independence however in Russia the Bolshevik party gains control and Poland is again at war with Russia. A few years later WWII starts and Poland is once again under attack with Nazi Germany from the west and the Soviet Union from the east. After WWII, Poland is re-established as a puppet state by the Soviet Union. 4 June 1989 is the fall of communism in Poland and Poland is once again independent. On the 12th March 1999 Poland joins NATO and on the 1 May 2004 Poland successfully joins the European Union. Poland will one day get it's revenge.
